Sara
Lee Foods had been using public warehousing
for most of its product for several years.
But when their management began looking to
the future of their distribution process,
they envisioned a dedicated mixing center
as an option with strong potential for success.
With
several divisions previously operating independently
of one another, Sara Lee decided to combine
all of those divisions into one distribution
system which would make managing several key
performance indicators easier. This change
in corporate structure would also set them
up to streamline their distribution process.
Thanks
to an existing relationship with Interstate
Warehousing, Sara Lee knew that Tippmann Group
had the knowledge and capability to both build
their new facility, and also take into consideration
the operational aspects within that warehouse.
Following a tour of one of Tippmann’s
new generation warehouses (Interstate Warehousing
- Franklin, IN), Sara Lee executives recognized
the value of the building’s design and
saw how well it functioned, leading Sara Lee
V.P. of Integrated Logistics Larry Rogers
to say, “I’ll take one of these.”
Tippmann
Group led Sara Lee through the entire design/build
process, including site selection, negotiations,
design and general contracting. The end result
is a 214,000 square foot multi-temperature
distribution / mixing center with a prime
location immediately off I-75 in Macon, Georgia.
