Known for an exceptionally high level of quality, leading regional produce wholesaler Crosset Co. chose Tippmann Construction to build a new storage and distribution facility which is considered one of the most advanced in the Midwest. Having sold its former building to make way for Cincinnati's Riverfront Stadium, Crosset needed its new facility in less than six months.

Tippmann began the process by doing a complete product analysis, which considered the needs of all Crosset's seasonal produce, from nectarines to Vidalia onions. Specialized requirements, such as environmental conditions for banana ripening, also added complexity. "The Tippmann engineers looked at all the conditions each type of produce requires," said Bill Schuler, Crosset President, "including precise control of temperature, humidity, off gases from nearby produce and countless other factors. The seasonality of many types of produce also added complexity."

The new 86,000 square-foot facility features seven separate produce rooms of varying sizes, each capable of being totally sealed off so that gases from one room don't contaminate others. It is a full-service distribution facility, with 22 dock doors and a "will call" area.
