Associated
Grocers of the South got to know Tippmann
Group through their relationship with the
Retailer Owned Food Distributors & Associates
(ROFDA). AG South had an existing building
that was completely landlocked, which limited
their options when they wanted to expand their
refrigerated/frozen space to keep up with
growth in the perishable food industry.
They didn’t want to build a new distribution
center, so Tippmann Group worked with Associated
Grocers of the South to help analyze what
would be the best solution for them. Tippmann
came up with a plan to convert adjacent dry
space to refrigerated/frozen space and also
to remodel the facility, nearly doubling the
number of pallet positions and pick facings
in the warehouse, while also adding a new
computer-controlled refrigeration system.
The project was completed in five months,
and increased AG’s refrigerated/frozen
space from 80,000 square feet to 130,000 square
feet without increasing utility consumption
and bills. To do this, 28 logistical product
moves were done throughout the project as
different parts of the building were renovated
and re-racked in order to keep the facility
fully operational throughout the entire project.
The renovated warehouse provided Associated
Grocers of the South with a significant increase
in productivity and reduced labor costs. Gerry
Totoritis, President of Associated Grocers
of the South said, “Tippmann’s
professionalism and attention to detail is
what impressed us the most.”
